THE SUM OF ITS PARTS
The "Jump" Mag is perhaps the pinnacle of AR-15 magazine technology. Using a proven aluminum USGI body from D&H, its rugged good looks are familiar to shooters the world over. While we are disappointed in the departure of Okay Industries® from the firearm industry, there are still guns that need to be fed. Since their announcement earlier this year, we started testing the D&H bodies to make sure they would maintain the level of performance we have come to expect from these beloved magazines. In our experience, they do. The internal upgrades remain the same:
Body: The original D&H Tactical Aluminum USGI body. The only change we made here is a laser engraving of our "MW" flame on the side.
Follower: Guiding the brass is a Magpul® Self-Leveling Follower™. Renowned for their reliability across the world, they are bar-none the best follower on the market.
Spring: We swapped the standard, round coiled spring for a patented Sprinco® flat wire 17-7 stainless steel spring. These improve feed reliability by removing the possibility of buckling under tension and improve follower support for the top 4 rounds of the magazine. As an added bonus, according to Alan Dugger (Mr. Springs himself), they will not suffer from "spring fatigue" when stored to capacity. That is to say they will keep running like-new even after years of service.
Floorplate: We capped it all off with the sensible addition of a Magpul® L-Plate™. These have a soft, impact-resistant Santoprene rubber overmolding atop a stainless steel plate. They protect the mag from impacts to the ground while retaining compatibility with a variety of magazine pouches on the market. You can even jury rig an old-school paracord "mag pull" with the molded loops.
Are there more affordable magazines out there on the market? Of course there are. Are these worth it? Maybe not for everyone. But, the premium price tag includes a lot more than just a roll mark. If you're looking for a durable, timeless magazine that will gladly suffer years of use and abuse, this might just be the last mag you'll ever need.
