DIALED IN.
The STEELDRIVER™ delivers a balance of precision and maneuverability for those who want to sling lead with the improved accuracy of an SPR in a less cumbersome package. With a plethora of options available to customize, you can build out your STEELDRIVER™ to suit your needs and preferences to be the correct fit right out of the box.
DESIGNATED TACK DRIVER.
Every one of our rifles is assembled by one set of hands from start to finish to our exacting quality standards with 100% domestically produced components.
The beating heart of your rifle, the upper receiver, is built around a forged 7075-T6 thermal fit receiver. With a slightly undersized barrel seat, the receiver must be heated to fit the barrel. While it is common for boutique rifles to feature shims, sealant compounds, and other solutions, this mechanical fit is the tightest and most consistent seat you can get in an upper assembly. This tight seal ensures that you are able to wring every ounce of mechanical accuracy and shot consistency out of the rifle. We also take care not to achieve this seat by hammering the upper onto the barrel with the muzzle sunk into the work bench. Instead, we use a little heat, a little cooling, and a splash of knock ‘er loose to fit the barrel into the upper without the potential for crown deformation or bore deflection.
The STEELDRIVER™ is outfitted with a fluted Ballistic Advantage® Premium Series barrel. Turned from 416R stainless steel, they feature a hybridized .223 Wylde chamber and 1:8 twist rate to keep things tight with a wide range of .223 Rem and 5.56 NATO loadings. Trimmed down from a heavier SPR profile, its rigidity helps print excellent groups with match loads while the longitudinal flutes reduce some of the bulk that is common for these types of barrels. The barrel is stress-relieved, High-Pressure Tested (HPT), and Magnetic Particle Inspected (MPI) and features an 11-degree recessed target crown. The gas block is aligned and installed with shallow dimples that are drilled into the gas block journal of the barrel. This installation is optimal for minimizing harmonic interference with the barrel, however our cross-drill and pinning service is available to customers looking for the most resilient installation. Each barrel is individually marked with a quality control number matched to the upper receiver and bolt head so you can rest assured that they are individually checked for head space and paired throughout the entire assembly and testing process. As a bonus, each STEELDRIVER™ ships with a cutout of a 5-shot proof group printed with your rifle using match ammo at 100 yards. On the business end of the barrel is either an A2 flash hider that is timed with a crush washer or your choice of suppressor host that is torqued between 20 and 25 lbs-ft and installed with Rocksett™ ceramic adhesive to hold it in place while preventing accuracy depleting bore constriction at the muzzle.
The STEELDRIVER™ comes standard with our hard-chrome plated M4P Bolt Carrier Group (BCG). It starts with a full-mass carrier turned from 8620 steel with a mil-spec 4130 gas key that is sealed with high-temp gasket compound and secured in place with staked Grade-8 fasteners. The bolt head is machined from the time-honored Carpenter No. 158 alloy, precision ground, and HPT/MPI with a deep “MP” marking and QC number that is noted on your Certificate of Authenticity to pair with the barrel in the assembly. The extractor is made to mil-spec from cold-drawn 4130 alloy, shot-peened for durability, and features a 5-coil Sprinco® XP-5 enhanced spring with a stupendously long service life of 25,000 rounds or more. Likewise, the S7 alloy ejector is driven by Sprinco’s enhanced ejector spring. Lastly, the firing pin is machined from mil-spec 8740 alloy and shot-peened like the extractor for durability. The shining feature of this BCG is that every component in the assembly is finished in a durable hard-chrome plating that is a breeze to clean and maintains an exceptional base level of lubricity to keep your rifle running even when lubrication burns into scarcity. For charging duty, you’ll find an ambidextrous Radian Raptor® charging handle with latches big enough for positive engagement but not so big as to snag on body-worn gear.
Rounding out the upper receiver is your choice of free-floated rail system. Whether you want a more standard M-LOK® HDM™ rail, a quad rail, a hybrid between the two, or a full-length ARCA SWISS interface, we have you covered. Rifles with M-LOK® rails come with a set of nine Magpul® Type 2 covers for you to configure around your rail-mounted gear for improved traction and heat insulation over the bare aluminum. Every rifle comes with an integral QD socket or a 4140 steel QD sling mount that won’t wallow out over time like inexpensive aluminum offerings. Regardless of what you pick, every rifle is equipped with some mechanism by which you can attach a forward mounted bipod that you can deploy without contacting the barrel and inflicting an accuracy-depleting deflection load.
LOWER RECEIVER
Moving to the bottom half of the assembly, you’ll find our billet 7075-T6 aluminum receiver with an integral right-side bolt release for quick bolt-lock reloads and a flared trigger guard for added clearance when shooting with gloves. On the outside is a GI-style 90-degree ambidextrous selector that delivers smooth, positive engagement and maintains reliable option in the “FIRE” position and predictable safety in the “SAFE” position. With the option of an ambidextrous magazine release, this suite of controls is a great improvement for right- and left-handed shooters alike.
To maximize your ergonomic comfort out of the box, you have the independent choice of a B5 P23 (with B5’s grip plug), Magpul® MOE-K2®, or BCM® GUNFIGHTER™ Mod 1 for your pistol grip and a B5 Bravo, Magpul® CTR®, or BCM GUNFIGHTER™ Mod 0 SOPMOD, Magpul® PRS® Lite, or B5 Systems Precision (Medium) stock.
On the inside is our Two-Stage Match trigger that delivers consistent trigger pulls and features full-power springs for reliable primer detonation. With hand-polished interfacing surfaces throughout, it gives the shooter a smooth 2-lbs take-up that meets a well-defined wall with a crisp 2.5-lbs break that gives you an enjoyable trigger pull without compromising on reliable function. Also available for a premium are a wide selection of Geissele® triggers should your trigger finger be finely tuned to one of those already.
Moving back the recoil assembly is a 9-position intermediate “A5” buffer system. The receiver extension is impact extruded from mil-spec 7075-T6 aluminum and has 9 adjustable positions for fine-tuning your length of pull compared to the standard 6 positions common to most standard systems. The extension is torqued down to TDP-spec 40 lbs-ft and locked in place with a double-staked billet steel QD endplate. Inside the buffer tube is an A5H1 buffer body with a Sprinco® Green spring. This system may give the shooter the perception of a “smoother” recoil impulse, but the main boon is an optimized travel time for the BCG to give the magazine enough time to present the next round in the stack for reliable feeding. The receiver extension is coated inside and out with Cerakote® Micro Slick Dry Film Lubricant coating to prevent binding in the spring and repel moisture.
The rest of the rifle comes in either a MIL-A-8625 Type III Hard Coat Anodizing or your choice from our selection of in-house Cerakote® H-Series finishes.
WARRANTY
As with all our firearms, every component is inspected and assembled by procedure before the complete firearm is test fired with live ammunition. It is our guarantee that they walk as well as they talk. So, should you encounter any issues arising from component selection or assembly error, we will fix it under the provisions of our FYS Limited Lifetime Guarantee. The upper receiver, barrel, and bolt head are all individually engraved with matching numbers noted on a certificate of authenticity that ships with your rifle for QC during the assembly process and down the line should you need work done on your rifle.
