DROPPING DIMES AT A DISTANCE.
The VALKYRIE™ is a premium Designated Marksman Rifle for long-range engagements. Accurate, reliable, and slinging cartridges with greater effectiveness at distance when compared to 5.56 NATO, it is a great choice for sleepy Saturday afternoons spent in the prone position.
UPPER RECEIVER
The VALKYRIE™, just like our proven SPR collection, starts with a high-quality, thermal fit 7075-T6 upper receiver. The constricted bore of the barrel seat mates the barrel and the receiver with mechanical perfection, removing one critical variable from the equation of shooting at extended. Making the down-range connection is a Criterion Hybrid barrel. It precision cut from 416R stainless steel and assembled with a JP Enterprises barrel extension that that has geometry complimentary to the High-Pressure EnhancedBolt™ that feeds it. The 6-groove rifling is hand-lapped by Criterion for maximum bore uniformity out of the box. To improve reliability in this part of the large frame gasser, the feed ramps and chamber walls are both hand-polished to keep things running smoothly during feeding and extraction. The barrel comes in either a salt-bath Nitride QPQ finish or your choice of exterior Cerakote® finish. The barrel and bolt are individually headspaced and come with unique QC numbers from Criterion and JP respectively that are tied together internally at Munitionworks™ and on your certificate of authenticity with the corresponding number on your upper receiver. As a bonus, each VALKYRIE™ ships with a cutout of a 5-shot proof group printed with your rifle using match ammo at 100 yards. To best reflect real-world performance, this proof test is not shot from a sled. Instead, they are shot from the prone with a bipod and a rear bag in the middle of a corn field. As such, there will be light wear marks on the areas where the bipod and scope are mounted. On the business end of the barrel is either an A2 flash hider that is timed with a crush washer or your choice of suppressor host that is torqued between 20 and 25 lbs-ft and installed with Rocksett™ ceramic adhesive to hold it in place while preventing accuracy depleting bore constriction at the muzzle.
Reciprocating in the action is our LRP™ Bolt Carrier Group (BCG). It starts with a full-mass carrier turned from 8620 steel with a mil-spec 4130 gas key that is sealed with high-temp gasket compound and secured in place with hand-staked Grade-8 OCKS fasteners. The bolt head is machined from SAE 9310, which is properly heat-treated to endure a long service life. It features a DLC coating, which is extremely hard and has a near-frictionless surface, which aids in reliability and makes it much easier to clean. The bolt lug geometry is improved and matched to the barrel extension to reduce wear and improve in reliable feeding. This, combined with the slightly enlarged cam pin hole, virtually eliminate bolt breakages that are common to the large-frame AR platform. JP was not done there. The ejector and extractor are both improved to reduce brass smear and optimize extraction to ensure reliable extraction of spent casings. Lastly, the gas rings are designed to have a virtually indefinite service life for an efficient gas seal. With a low-friction finish, these bolts will fail the "standup" ring test. Don't worry, this is by design and completely normal for these bolts.
Rounding out the upper receiver is your choice of free-floated rail system. Whether you want a more standard M-LOK® rail or a full-length ARCA SWISS interface, we have you covered. Rifles with M-LOK® rails come with a set of nine Magpul® Type 2 covers for you to configure around your rail-mounted gear for improved traction and heat insulation over the bare aluminum and a 7-slot Magpul® 1913 adapter or Arisaka Defense Rail Slider Interface of your choice. Every rifle comes with an integral QD socket or a 4140 steel QD sling mount that won’t wallow out over time like inexpensive aluminum offerings. Regardless of what you pick, every rifle is equipped with some mechanism by which you can attach a forward mounted bipod that you can deploy without causing hardware to contact the barrel and inflict an accuracy-depleting deflection load.
LOWER RECEIVER
Moving to the bottom half of the assembly, you’ll find our billet 7075-T6 aluminum receiver with an integral right-side bolt release for quick bolt-lock reloads and a flared trigger guard for added clearance when shooting with gloves. On the outside is a GI-style 90-degree ambidextrous selector that delivers smooth, positive engagement and maintains reliable option in the “FIRE” position and predictable safety in the “SAFE” position. In your dominant hand is your choice of a B5 P23 (with B5’s grip plug), Magpul® MOE-K2®, or BCM® GUNFIGHTER™ Mod 1 pistol grip and gracing your shoulder is a B5 Bravo, Magpul® DT Carbine, Magpul® PRS-Lite®, or BCM GUNFIGHTER™ Mod 0 SOPMOD stock. With the option of an ambidextrous magazine release, this suite of controls is a great improvement for right- and left-handed shooters alike.
On the inside is our Two-Stage Match trigger that delivers consistent trigger pulls and features full-power springs for reliable primer detonation. With hand-polished interfacing surfaces throughout, it gives the shooter a smooth 2-lbs take-up that meets a well-defined wall with a crisp 2.5-lbs break that gives you an enjoyable trigger pull without compromising on reliable function.
Moving back the recoil assembly is a 9-position intermediate “A5” buffer system. Compared to the more common "shorty" carbine buffer systems found on most large-frame platforms, the intermediate buffer system smooths out the recoil impulse, optimizes lock time in the chamber, and improves feed timing. The receiver extension is impact extruded from mil-spec 7075-T6 aluminum and has 9 adjustable positions for fine-tuning your length of pull compared to the standard 6 positions common to most standard systems. The castle nut is torqued down to TDP-spec 40 lbs-ft and locked in place with a double-staked billet steel QD endplate. Inside the buffer tube is an H3 buffer with a Sprinco® Orange spring. The receiver extension is coated internally with Cerakote® Micro Slick Dry Film Lubricant coating to prevent binding in the spring, reduce the “twang” sound of the buffer assembly, and repel moisture.
The rest of the rifle comes in your choice from our selection of in-house Cerakote® H-Series finishes.
WARRANTY
As with all our firearms, every component is inspected and assembled by procedure before the complete firearm is test fired with live ammunition. It is our guarantee that they walk as well as they talk. So, should you encounter any issues arising from component selection or assembly error, we will fix it under the provisions of our FYS Limited Lifetime Guarantee. The upper receiver, barrel, and bolt head are all individually engraved with matching numbers noted on a certificate of authenticity that ships with your rifle for QC during the assembly process and down the line should you need work done on your rifle.
